My adventures in Icelandic zerowaste online stores

I went shopping in two Icelandic zero waste stores Tropic and Hestia. I found a number of things I needed and also some impulse buys, but atleast they were zero waste.

What did I buy?

1. I managed to convince my boyfriend to buy a safety razor from an Icelandic store called Tropic. And I will name reasons why he wanted to buy it:

• For normal razors you always need to buy new razorheads and you might not always buy the correct ones because on the market there are a million more "4-blade moving head etc etc" razorheads.

• Extra razorheads take up a good amount of space and are not comfortable to store and in the end the razor ends up costing you more than a safety razor.

With a safety razor you don't have that problem, because you only need to buy new razor blades that cost way less than any razor head.

2. Dishwashing brush with a changeable head

I wanted to try plastic free dishwashing, so I bought a wooden brush with natural bristles. The great thing about these brushes is that you don't need to buy a whole new brush, but just the head.

So far I like it, but I wish it would make it possible to scrape burnt food of the bottom of the pot.

3. Dishwashing soap

I wanted to wash dishes plastic free therefore and also bought myself a dishwashing soap. The bar is also palm oil free and vegan. Overall I am pretty happy with the bar, but it is hard to remove greasy food, but with hot water it is still doable.

4. 2 soap dishes

The name itself says it all. I needed a breathable surface for my shampoo bar and dishwashing soap.

5. Shampoo bar

I am always looking for new shampoo bars to try and I have a new one ready when I finish this on. The soap smells very fresh and in made by the company Kitenest. All the information about the soap was printed on seed paper. I have already planted the seed paper, but I am afraid that I may have overwatered them and nothing will come of it. I am still learning how to take care of plants.

6. Bamboo fork, knife and spoon with a metal straw and cleaning brush.

Now there is no reason for me to even consider using plastic cutlery.

7. Dog toy

I purchased a natural rope toy for playing outside. It is great because it does not have any soft toys connected to it that may get dirty.

My experience with both companies has been great. I received my orders quickly and my questions or problems were solved very fast.
